Does Google Pagerank affects SERP
Google Pagerank shows a website’s importance to the web, it is measured by numeric values from 1 to 10; 10 being the most important. It works like a voting system, the more links you get from other websites, the more vote is cast to your site and the more important your site is. This is how Pagerank works; for example, Google.com has a Pagerank of 10, Adobe.com and Microsoft.com have 9, these sites have high Pagerank because they are popular and old sites, many of the existing websites on the net are linking to these high authority websites. Compare that to a newly launched site with no backlinks from other sites at all, this new site will have a Pagerank of 0, but once it ages and get more backlinks from other sites, it’s Pagerank will increase eventually.
Now some people might ask, does Pagerank play a big role in Google SERP (ranking chart)? My answer is simple… maybe; it may, but not big of a significance. Getting a site ranked high on Google for certain keywords purely depends on quality, quantity and authority. Quality is measured by using unique relevant phrases, pages and articles to harbor your link. Quantity is the amount of backlinks you built over time and Authority is the type of sites on which you have strategically built your backlinks to. It doesn’t matter what their Pagerank is, as long as they are high quality and high authority sites. It’s very easy to manipulate Pagerank, I was able to make a 3 month old freshly created niche website to gain Pagerank 4 within a couple of months, but it doesn’t mean that site was high quality or high authority. It was only a new, normal, ordinary website. That is why do not depend solely on a site’s Pagerank as a basis of your link building strategy. Focus on the factors I have mentioned, quality, quantity and authority.
SEO as a career
SEO Professionals are becoming more and more in demand in the past couple of years, this is purely because of the growing number of companies, small businesses and sole traders doing their business online, but this also means that competitions are growing too because businesses knows that consumers feel more comfortable now buying stuff online than they have ever been before… Now where does SEO sits here? Anyone can make websites, almost everyone can setup their own blogs and online store in minutes to showcase and sell their products or services, but not everyone can perform an effective SEO strategy. This is why companies, small business and sole traders are investing and including SEO to their advertising budget.
SEO is actually more affordable than the traditional ways of advertising and promoting products or services in forms of flyers, brochures, newspaper ads, banners, radio and media ads and more. Consumers know what they want, and they want to get it really quick, where else would they go? Most consumers would go in one place and only one place.. guess which place? .. Google. That is why if a business website is ranked high on Google for their relevant popular keywords, it gets a lot of clicks and visits from potential customers, this will then lead to a lot of sale conversions.
This is why SEO Professionals are becoming so in demand in the past couple of years, businesses wants to reach top rankings in Google, their CEO wont have the time to do it, their staff wont have a clue how to do it, their web developers can only make an attempt with no assurances, thats why businesses want to do it right, this is why they are hiring SEO Professionals to do things right and to do things as quickly as possible to tackle their competitions. I can safely say now that SEO is a career and on shortage, perhaps you can be one of us.
Choosing the right keywords to optimize
Before performing SEO to your site, you need to sit down and analyze which keywords will bring the most traffic with the most conversion to your site. This is a must, this is the reason why you are doing SEO in the first place, to get high quality traffic. In order to get the most relevant and high traffic keywords you can use free tools such as the Google Adwords Keywords tool, or you can opt for the paid ones like WordTracker. Then choose a set of keywords that fits your site best with a decent search volume traffic. Once you have chosen your keywords, perform a Google search using these keywords and see how many competitions you have and how strong they are. We will discuss in later posts how to analyze the strength of your competitions and what to do to outranked them.
Choosing the right keywords is one of the main key to a website’s success in terms of traffic and conversion. If you have a new website, I suggest you select the long tail keywords first (with less competition) then once you get your site ranked using those keywords, you can slowly target those highly competitive keywords. SEO is not an overnight thing, it requires a lot of patience but once you reached your goal everything pays off well. That is why you should come up with a perfect plan in the beginning and choose the right keywords for your website.
Google Caffeine is coming
Today I have noticed that Google is starting to implement its Caffeine engine and it is starting to show up in most of Google’s Datacenters, to see this the best tool to use to compare the current Google search result to the Google Caffeine result is http://www.comparecaffeine.com/search-com.php
It’s been good and bad for my clients, but mostly good especially to the ones with aged sites, because their site’s SERPs has gone up for their selected keywords, the only ones that went down are the newer websites, but its only a matter of time till they come back up again, and they will come back up stronger.
