PostHeaderIcon Google Disavow Links Tool Launched

disavow link toolGoogle has a newly launched tool called “disavow links” which was announced by Matt Cutts last October 16 during the PubCon, it will keep every SEO professional & companies very busy. The Google’s head mentioned that said tool is already up and running and that it’s officially set on Google’s blog site.

In addition, it is said that the disavow links tool had undergone Beta testing already by several chosen Search Engine Optimization experts. Although, a similar tool was first launched by Bing ahead of time this year.

According to Matt Cutts, using the disavow links tool comes with warning measures. Moreover, he has added that web publishers should first eliminate the links they suspect to be leading at them. He advised them to work first with website owners or to hosting companies whom they have bought their links.

The set-up or format would be to record all URLs or links in a text file whichever way you want it. You can do it individually or you could keep out all URLs from a certain website using domains. Nevertheless, both set-up and formats could also be combined in one particular file. Samples could be found on Google’s central blog site.

So, anytime you have set-up and formed your file, you can now navigate the tool from Google Webmaster Tools.  Just pick your website, undergo the cautions, choose the file and finally submit.

Cutts likewise stated that the procedure of disavow links will not take effect straight away as it may take several weeks. More so, Google made a reservation as to disallow the usage of “submit” tab whenever it finds valid grounds of bad faith.

Once your file is submitted, you will have the choice to download what you’ve submitted or an option to resubmit the file together with your alterations. Take note that there’s a file size limitation of 2 MB and that when you exceed this limitation file size, you would disavow and most likely create a new website.

Further, regarding the length of time of this procedure, it would also mean that it takes time to “reavow” if ever you commit an error. For this reason, you should be cautious about.

Now, the question is, how would you know if you need to “disavow”? You need it if you are one of those who were affected of the so called, “Google Penguin Update”.

After the Penguin update, several publishers and SEO professionals went anxious and thought they are doomed. They try to find ways on how to reduce bad links and simply start anew. Whereas the others were anxious that people may tip bad links on their websites with intent to damage them and accuse them of exercising “black hat” SEO or “negative” search engine optimization. Worse, there is a new business today where people are paid to eliminate links.

Furthermore, Google had been ignoring bad links for a long time. If not only of its negative effect to the website, the disavow links tool wouldn’t have created. However, considering these bad links as negative type, Google widely facilitated and created tools against the spread of negative search engine optimization with high beliefs to tranquil the situation eventually.

For a complete information of the tool, visit the official blog site of Google.

PostHeaderIcon Google’s New Algorithm against Exact-Match Domains

Meanwhile in the world of SEO Matt Cutts, Google’s head had spoken regarding a “small” upcoming Google algo change. Hence, he added that such change would certainly reduce “low quality” as emphasized, “exact-match” domains in the search engine results. Indeed, Matt Cutts released this statement without clearing whether such upcoming algorithm update is still on the process or would it be rolling out by the end of the week. He continued stating that this small change will affect 0.6 percent English-US inquiries to a visible level, yet he had never pointed out the exact timeline.

After the release of this SEO update, a 24-hour exact-match domains influence was measured and it had dropped from 3.58 percent to 3.21 percent. Indeed, the algorithm update had an immediate effect hitting several domains that were previously ranked high, but had lost their rankings:

Number 3 – playscrabble.net

Number 3 – purses.org

Number 4 – teethwhitening.com

Number 7 – charterschools.com

Number 10 – cheap-hotels.com

The number value represents the domain’s ranking a day before the influence drop.  Thus, based on the above, the rank drop has no evident pattern for instance with charterschools had jumped to rank 23, while cheap-hotels fell to outside the Top 100.

Perhaps, you may ask the basis of the rank drop, but there is no clear answer to that except that it is EMD. Exact-match domain refers to a domain that matches exactly for the search engine query. To illustrate, if “A” is selling SEO services and he owns www.seoservices.com, surely that domain is an EMD. For some domains, they may appear to drop in the ranking not because of the new algo rather due to factors as an incident to EMD – that is domains with low-quality indicators.

Further, EMD algorithm should not be correlated to Panda and Penguin, as these are not related to this change. Google Panda is an algo filter aiming to fight against uncompetitive or poor quality contents, whereas the Google Penguin is a web-tool against spamming. Indeed, EMD algorithm is no more of a shock since Cutts had stated few years ago that Google would be on the lookout of grounds why do EMDs are ranking high in search results when they’re supposed not to.

With this SEO update, expect a rapid shift on the search engine results these approaching days. Just make sure to keep complying with the latest Google standards, keep some fresh contents happening and perform ethical link building. PostHeaderIcon How to choose the right web designer

When choosing a SEO professional or web designer for your next project it is vital to the very success of your website that you do find the right company. Looking online is generally the first place any one would look and going there will reveal a multitude of web design companies looking pretty much the same.

The choices are limitless and as an astute business owner or some one looking to get their first website they should follow a few simple golden rules. Keeping these front of mind should make the decision process just that bit easier.

Remember, it is your business and you do not want to trust your website with just any company.

1.  Be aware that some web design studios are they themselves start ups. Ideally you should be looking at partnering with a firm that has some history and portfolio of work to back them up. An easy way to check this is to look at their portfolio online. Any web company worth its while will be proud to show you what they have done and be happy to go over their portfolio of work with you.

2. Check to see if they are willing to give you the names and numbers of people you can call. These are testimonials and they will be able to verify the experience they had with the web designers. If everyone says the same thing then you are more than likely on a winner.

3. Web companies should be able to offer you a search engine optimisation service. Getting your website ranked online is a super way to get new business and if your newly designed website ranks well then you will benefit from new business inquiries when people are searching for your product and or service. A good way to see if they know what they are talking about when it comes to SEO is to check their online ranking. Obviously if they are on the first page of Google then this is a very good sign moving forward.

4. Make sure that at the conclusion of the project you will retain ownership of all IP or intellectual property. There are some very possessive website designers out there who will be very reluctant to relinquish ownership of their artwork. They, in some occasions become a little testy when you try to get you artwork files and source codes. Make sure that this is brought up in the very beginning so there is absolutely no confusion later on once the site is launched.

These are just a few out of literally hundreds of web design tips you should be wary of when deciding on your new company to handle you web project.

PostHeaderIcon Overcome Google Panda using these tips

One of my SEO client is using Volusion CMS for his very established and authoritative online store. We have been performing  SEO to his site continuously for more than 2 years now and have ranked it on the Top of Google USA for various email marketing keywords. His website was doing great, getting a lot of traffic, converting most of them to leads then generating good amount of sales every month. We haven’t made a lot of changes to the site for the past 12 months for us not to tamper with it’s current format & success (why fix when its not broken) until last 26th of April 2012, his rankings dropped from Top 1 and Top 3 to Page 2 and 4 for 2 of his strongest keywords. Some of his long tail keywords remained on top but some have dropped as well. I knew it right away, this is the effect of the new Google Panda algorithm update since his version of Volusion is not made for it.

The following day, I have performed a complete onsite SEO evaluation and assessment, looking for areas that needs improvement and then designed a customized “Panda fixed” SEO strategy plan to be implemented in 7 days span, and here are the changes we have made:

  1. Changed the titles & meta description of the homepage and 57 sub pages, make them look natural and only focused on 2 keywords that are relevant to the page. In regards to the homepage, we have done the same and placed the 2 main keywords there.
  2. I have organized my copywriters to create 250 words of unique content about each pages that is not keyword-riched. We have only included 2 keywords per content and maximum instance of 2 per keywords. We have published these unique relevant contents on every sub pages. We’ve done this because his sub pages or product pages contains very thin contents and have a lot of products that are similar to that of other online stores. This method sets his website apart from other similar stores and created some form of uniqueness to them.
  3. After implementing this onsite SEO changes, I have generated a new XML sitemap and submitted it to Google Webmaster tools for faster indexing. I have also supported this by pinging every amended pages of his site using online ping tools such as pingler.com and others.
  4. ..and the waiting begins

The after 4 weeks, his site has recovered from Panda and reclaimed his Top rankings back. Why did this solution work? Here’s why:

  1. Gave his online store more “unique content” value to Google
  2. Created better user and customer experience
  3. Provided better definition for each pages
  4. Enriched his site with better contents

This solution may work on his site but may not work on other sites. Overcoming Panda is not easy, its a site by site basis, a complete assessment of the site is required to find out what exactly is wrong with it and draw up a strategy plan on how to fix it. If your site has been hit by Panda or Penguin Penalty and would require SEO professional advise do not hesitate to contact me

PostHeaderIcon 6 Recommendations every SEO has to make before the Penalty of Over-Optimization Hits

Recently, there has been an announcement by Matt Cutts, Google’s spokesperson in a panel conference at South by Southwest entitled, “Dear Google and Blog: Help me Rank Better.” Cutt’s broke his silence regarding Google’s intent of giving penalty to websites and those people who abuse and over use SEO.  Whether it is going to happen or implemented or perhaps already happening, there are certain things or changes that we could and should make before this so-called, “over-SEO” penalty hits your website.

Authentic Website Title

Choose a title that sounds good and real. Authentic title means you wrote it without intention to rank high in search engines. An instance of a bad title, “website design services”. Does it sound good? Unfortunately, it doesn’t and it is quite obvious that your mere intention is to rank high. A title that is authentic, “Sydney’s best web design providers” sounds far better than the former.

Controlling inside links

Overuse of links and linking in the same page like one anchor text in the content, then the same anchor can be seen in the side bar and another in the footer is certainly not beneficial. Too much links in a similar page serves no value for the excess links, as a SEO rule. Hence, when there is deliberate use of links, the website may appear like a spam or scrap non-sense and dubious for anyone who browses it.

Footers filled with links

Crowding the footers with links is another practice by many SEO webmasters. They attempt to place as many footer links as possible even when no one would really click those links. Make sure to put those links in the right place and at the same time make use of anchor texts, which are useful and relevant.

Non-sense blocks of word content

There are web pages that in the first few paragraphs of the content, it seems sensible, relevant and of good quality. One may consider it as useful, but when you keep on reading through the middle of the content, there exists a block of non-sense wordings as well as irrelevant keywords. Will it help you to rank and get rates? No, actually. Instead of driving readers to come back and follow your pages, it will lead them to flag your pages negatively.

Over back linking

Make use of back links wisely. When someone asks for interlinking, do not agree right away. It may lead you of manipulating the engines. Perhaps, it is better when you exert your efforts in participating to forums or leave relevant and sensible comments to other pages.

Long list of identical pages

Creating many pages of similar keywords and contents with the same target also looks a spam page and a real crop.  For example, pre-owned autos Sydney, used autos Sydney, used cars Sydney. They are identical, right? Avoid this type of identical keywords instead keep it in a single page like Pre-owned and used cars Sydney, appears better and not over SEO.

Many SEO webmasters practice these kind of stuff and it is best when you have to be cautions and prepared when Google starts hitting the over SEO penalty.
