SEO Predictions for year 2011
Last year we have seen a lot of changes in the SEO world, from the joining forces of Bing and Yahoo to the improvements that Google has done to its Search Engine. Some of the improvements they have implemented are; the new Google homepage look with more features in the left sidebar, the new Image search result interface, Google Instant and the biggest news last year was Google Caffeine, the new and better way of displaying search results. Seriously when I first saw these changes I was overwhelmed with all the new features they brought on board, I thought it will just confuse casual searchers but I got used to it after a couple of days and accepted the benefits of these changes to searchers and for SEO.
Now this year 2011 I expect that Google will make further improvements with SEO not within Google but within people’s websites, most of these improvements will be within their algorithm, things like how Google the search engine view certain websites and add new ranking signals. Here are my predictions:
- Social Media will now become a major part of SEO, this will help Google in deciding how valuable and popular the website is. Social media features on the websites will show visitors activities and Google likes websites with high activities, because its a way of telling Google that its an active website and its useful
- I also see a big rollout of Google Products, this will make it easier for searchers to find the product that they are looking for in the price range they can afford, it also gives them a lot of options and information.
- Since Google has appointed one of its co-founder as their CEO, I expect him to make a lot of changes in the algorithm, add more ranking signals and make a lot of their automation process more efficient
These are just some of my predictions, I have been focusing a lot more on Google because they are the biggest search engine as we all know, how about you? Do you have any predictions? Feel free to share!
Google Instant
Google Streaming Search’s official name is called Google Instant. When I first read and heard about it a couple of days ago, I said to myself, that sounds familiar and I remember some 4-5 years ago, Yahoo have developed the same concept of instant results while searching, but it never got into the mainstream; beta forever until its gone. I guess the technology or concept wasn’t ready yet back then and Yahoo knew it will not be fully embraced by internet users.
Now, 5 years on, Google has almost perfected the Instant search result concept and added a lot “benefits” to users according them. But from what I can see so far, all the benefits are pointing at Google, the main benefits are the various paid ads being displayed per Instant search result.
Looking from the end user side, it’s a bit annoying in the beginning. It supposed to “teach” users how to search properly but its actually more of a distraction because users will see different topics, keywords while they type and it can cause lost of focus. There are a lot more feedback that I can give and it will take me a lot of time typing them all, so I guess I will leave it up to all of you, what are your experiences so far with Google Instant? Is it good, bad or you dont really care at all? Has it changed the way you search? Do you find what you are looking for in less time?
Google Streaming Search
After weeks or months of rumors and speculations, Google today has finally revealed the major changes in their search homepage interface. But at the time of this writing its still only available in Google UK and eventually I believe they will roll this out worldwide in the next coming days.
When you now perform a Google search, it will show the results instantly as a streaming search result. The streaming search results is based on which keywords is currently in the search box or what the user have typed in. If you type more or change the keywords that you have typed in, the streaming search results will change in realtime. Game changer in the search engine world? Perhaps.. But it will take some time to get used to. Watch the video below.
Google Me
Watch out Mark Zuckerberg and gang, Google is “secretly” working on “Google Me“, their own version of your little work called Facebook. As reported, Google Me will take social networking giant Facebook head on for the battle to conquer the social media world. For those who’s thinking, hey what happened with Google Buzz? Well, Buzz is actually and supposed to be a Twitter killer because of its added features like sharing multimedia but it hasn’t really kicked off yet due to the earlier privacy issues.
We expect that Google will learn from its previous mistakes and the shortcomings of Facebook in regards to Privacy. Google Me will be based on the current Facebook model and possibly add more features that no one really thought of yet. Google employs some of the best technology brain in the world, I am sure they will come up with something hot and something that will click, I heard this is on high priority. I am expecting a beta version of Google Me will come out later this year, lets wait and see!
New Milestone Reached
After a month of performing SEO for keywords “seo professional” and “seo consultant” I have now reached a new milestone in Google Australia. At present, I am ranked #2 for keywords “seo professional” in Google Australia, one more and I can claim the top spot. Now that is my ultimate goal for the next couple of months. Another keywords I have just climbed up on is “seo consultant” . From out of nowhere in early May 2010, I am now at #10 in Page 1 of Google Australia.
How did I do it? Let me share something with you without revealing all.. I have used the power of “link popularity”. What is Link popularity? It’s one of the major factor in the latest Google algorithm, it’s a way of spreading the word about your website to other websites using your main keywords, in my case “seo consultant” and “seo professional”. When you increase your link popularity, you will climb up the rank ladder quickly, but you have to do it right, you have to do as per Google standards and policy. Dont SPAM, be relevant and be natural. Most of all be patient. This is also not applicable to all keywords, you must do an extensive research before using this method, because you might be battling against the big guns, sites with high link authorities. Link Authority >>>> Link Popularity, remember that. If you are going up against these folks, it will take longer and it will take more than Link Popularity to outranked them. I have also launched a new Check Google Rank SEO Tool called MySiteSERP, you can find that here: www.mysiteserp.com enjoy!
